Twitter Limits Reading Rate for All Users

On July 2, 2023, through his personal Twitter account, Elon Musk announced that Twitter will be restricting the number of tweets that users can read each day. These limitations will come into effect on July 3 for all users, regardless of their account status or level of activity.

Initially, verified accounts were restricted to reading 6,000 tweets per day, while unverified accounts were limited to 600 posts per day. Additionally, new unverified accounts were restricted to 300 posts per day.

However, Musk later provided an update in a separate post, stating that the temporary reading limitations have been increased to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 posts per day for unverified accounts, and 500 posts per day for new unverified users.

Reason for Tweet Reading Limitations

Musk stated that these limitations are necessary to reduce the amount of data scraping and system manipulation on the platform. However, in the mentioned tweet, Elon Musk clarified that these limitations are only temporary.

Recently, Elon Musk also added that some companies attempted data scraping on Twitter for a certain period, making these restrictions necessary.

Impact of Twitter Reading Limitations

This action has faced criticism from Twitter users who feel disadvantaged. The limitations will restrict the number of tweets users can read each day, potentially leading to a decline in active users and interactions.

As a result, many users have flocked to other platforms that resemble Twitter, such as Truth Social or the latest platform, Threads from Meta. Both of these platforms do not impose limitations on the number of tweets users can read, providing more freedom for users.
